If you have already know the basics of navigation, then the Silver National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) is an ideal next step. You’ll gain knowledge and skills to allow you to move away from paths and tracks. You will also have confidence when the mist descents! It’s an ideal course for those who are working towards Mountain Training’s Hill and Moorland Leader or Mountain Leader Award.
What is the National Navigation Award Scheme?
The National Navigation Award Scheme is a national scheme which aims to teach people how to navigate and look after themselves in the countryside and mountains of Britain. It isn’t a leadership award.
What kit will I need ?
On your Silver National Navigation Award Scheme course, you should dress for a day in the hills. We will send you a suggested kit list in your welcome pack. You will need to bring things such as waterproofs, spare warm layers, and lunch. Don’t worry about bringing a map or compass- we’ll provide those on the day.
How fit will do I need to be?
You will need to be fit enough to spend a couple of days walking through open countryside, sometimes venturing away from the path. Ideally, you will have completed some hillwalks or bagged some Munros.
What is included in the price of my Silver NNAS course?
The cost you pay includes; instruction by a qualified mountain leader, use of the required maps and compasses for the duration of the course, course notes and your certificate.
