Above all, combining theory and practice to enable emergency responders to recognise and manage catastrophic bleeding. You’ll find this course useful if you work as an event medic, with heavy machinery, chainsaws or are just looking to develop your first aid knowledge.
What will I learn?
On the Celox External Haemorrhage Control- A Stepwise Approach course will teach you how to recognise and manage severe and catastrophic bleeding in a first aid or prehospital setting. You will learn how the bodies circulatory system transfers oxygen to tissue and organs. Furthermore, how bleeding affects this system and leads to hypovolemic shock.
In the practical section of the course you will learn how to treat an external haemorrhage using direct pressure, pressure dressings and tourniquets. You’ll also learn the benefits of and how to use a haemostat agent, such as Celox.
Above all you will learn a structured stepped approach to managing bleeding. This approach has been based on the best current medical evenidence and research, as well as the guidance and advice of professional and authorative bodies.
Is this course accredited?
We deliver this course in partnership with the Celox Academy. The Celox Academy was established in 2015, to enable emergency responders to develop the skills and experience needed to perform in hostile situation. As well as building confidence to overcome physical and mental strains and through best practise, save lives.
This course is CPD accredited and is worth seven credits. When you successfully complete this course you will be presented with a CPD certificate.

The Celox External Haemorrhage Control- A Stepwise Approach course uses practical workshops, scenario-based learning and theory sessions to ensure that you have a deep understanding of the subject. During the course, you will confidently develop the skills to manage a catastrophic bleed. We use a variety of high-quality resources to ensure that you have a realistic and engaging training experience.
You will receive a learners handbook and course handouts.
Assessment is an important part of learning to ensure your understanding and development of your skills. This course is assessment through practical observation. During the assessment, you will apply a tourniquet, demonstrate direct digital pressure and pack a wound using a haemestatic dressing.
Upon completing the course your assessor will give you feedback on your performance, and the next steps to cement your knowledge. You will be invited to review your own performance and reflect how to implement your learning.
Who will my trainer be?
Our first aid courses are all delivered by professionals who work across the industry. So your trainer will hold an advanced first aid certificate and education qualifications. In addition to this, our trainers are active in the outdoor industry, which means that they have lots of real-life experience dealing with first aid incidents.
What will I need to bring?
Our courses are practical. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty during your session. We would recommend wearing old clothes that you don’t mind becoming stained, especially since we will be simulating wounds with fake blood! Please don’t wear skirts, low cut or baggy blouses etc. as this may embarrass you and those around you. You’ll need to bring your lunch, but we will provide tea and coffee.
Is this course right for me?
The Celox External Haemorrhage Control- A Stepwise Approach course builds on existing knowledge. For the best experience on this course, you already need to have a basic knowledge of first aid. You will also need to have a basic understanding of English, as you will learn some medical terminology. Don’t worry about this as your trainer will guide you through the process. You will also need to engage with the practical element of the course- this is a lot of fun!
If you have already completed a first aid qualification, and are looking to deepen your knowledge and develop your practical skills then this course is well suited for you!
